Oak Bay, B.C. – At approximately 4:12 p.m. on February 23, 2026, Oak Bay Police officers were called to the 3300-block of Norfolk Road following a report of a break and enter at a residence. One suspect has been arrested and charged, thanks to a coordinated response from multiple police departments and strong community support.
Michael Leighton has been charged with the Break and Enter and Commit an Indictable offence, contrary to Section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. Leighton remains in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
Upon returning home, the family discovered their residence had been unlawfully entered and disturbed, with numerous personal items reported stolen. The suspect had already departed. Through neighbourhood canvassing and close collaboration with the Victoria Police Department, investigators quickly identified a suspect. Police acted diligently to locate and arrest the individual.
This file reflects a major collaborative effort across the Oak Bay Police Department, with contributions from numerous members, including the newly established General Investigative Services unit that directed the investigation. The rapid progress of the investigation was made possible through close collaboration between Oak Bay Police Department, Integrated Canine Service, Victoria Police Department, and Delta Police Department. The combined efforts across jurisdictions led to the swift identification of a suspect.
Mr. Leighton was arrested from his vehicle in Tsawwassen with assistance from Delta Police Department and the Victoria Police Department. The Oak Bay Police Department sought a judicial authorization to search Mr. Leighton’s residence in Langford.
