This is the Weekly Media release for the week of April 27th – May 3rd, 2015. The Oak Bay Police responded to 93 calls for service this week.
Wednesday, April 29th: The Oak Bay Police Department received a mischief complaint to one of our local schools where staff at the school observed a graffiti tag.
Wednesday, April 29th: Police responded to a call of some property that was left behind at one of our local beaches. Police retrieved wood carvings of a frog, sea shell, turtle and a collection of rocks. Anyone with information pertaining to this property should contact the Oak Bay Police Department.
Friday, May 1st: A vehicle was stopped was stopped for speeding in the 3000 block of Cadboro Bay Road. The police officer smelled a strong odour of liquor emanating from the driver. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered and the reading showed a ‘WARN” and resulted in the driver being issued a 3 day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 3 days.
Thursday & Friday, April 30th – May 1st: The Oak Bay Police Department responded to six thefts from autos the majority of which were in south Oak Bay. All of the vehicles were unlocked and the glove boxes were rifled through and loose change taken.
The Oak Bay Police Department can’t stress enough the importance of locking your vehicles and removing any valuables and secure them in a safe place in your residence.
Saturday, May 3rd: The Oak Bay Police responded to the 2500 block of Lansdowne Road for a single vehicle MVI rollover. Striking an unoccupied parked vehicle, the offending vehicle rolled over onto its rooftop, sustaining extensive overall damage and trapping the driver. The ‘jaws of life’ was required to extract the male driver who was the lone occupant and he was subsequently transported to the hospital. The Saanich Police Traffic Analyst and the Forensic Identification Section responded to the scene. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this MVI and the investigation is ongoing.
