Weekly Media Release May 11-18, 2015

On May 14th at 6:15 am police responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Beach Drive to a complaint of an unknown person sleeping in the driver’s seat of the resident’s truck.  A female of no fixed address was found asleep in the truck. She was arrested for mischief, theft and breaching court conditions.  Police also determined that she had three outstanding warrants for her arrest. The police investigation continues.

On May 13th at 11:20 pm a police officer observed a southbound vehicle on Henderson Road speeding. A subsequent check of the driver, who had earlier consumed alcohol, resulted in police making a breath demand. The 19 year old driver was issued a 24 hour driving suspension and his motor vehicle impounded for 24 hours.

On May 14th at 11:20 pm police clocked a westbound vehicle on radar on Beach Drive near Transit Rd travelling at 117 km/hr in the 40 km/hr zone. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and a breath demand was made. The 29 year old driver failed to provide a proper sample of breath and was served a 90 day immediate roadside driving prohibition, a violation ticket for excessive speed, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

On May 16th at 2:00 am police stopped a pick-up truck on Foul Bay Road near Allenby Street for speeding.  The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol resulting in a breath demand being made. The driver was served a 90 day immediate roadside driving prohibition and his vehicle impounded for 30 days.

On May 17th at 1:20 am police stopped an SUV on Foul Bay Road by Neil Street for speeding.  A 25 year old male was driving and found to be under the influence of alcohol, resulting in a breath demand being made. The driver was served a 90 day immediate roadside driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Canada Road Safety Week 2015 ran from May 12th – 18th this year with police focusing their attention on high risk driving behaviour such as Impaired Driving, Aggressive Driving, Distracted Driving, and Failure to Wear Seatbelts.   This past week, Oak Bay Police removed from our streets 4 drinking drivers whose blood alcohol levels exceeded allowable limits, and impounded their motor vehicles.
