During the early morning hours of August 17th unknown persons forcibly entered the secure underground parking area of 1280 Newport Ave. Two electric bikes were stolen, one described as a Pedego electric 28 City Commuter ST. It is black with a brown seat and valued at $3195. The other was an I-Go electric bike, white in colour and valued at $1400. Approximately $500 damage was done to the building’s gate. Saanich Police Identification Section attended. No suspects at this point. Police are continuing their investigation.
On August 18th school officials at Willows Elementary School discovered that sometime during the past week unknown person(s) entered the office of the school and went through cash boxes and a safe. There were no signs of forced entry and it is believed the school may have accidently been left unlocked by an employee. Saanich Police Identification Section is assisting. Police are continuing their investigation.
On August 19th at 5:00 pm a very large branch from an oak tree broke away and fell across the intersection of Foul Bay Road and Granite St. The branch fell on top of two vehicles, both of which had occupants. Fortunately, no one was injured. A pedestrian who was also crossing the intersection at the time narrowly missed being struck. The branch covered the width of the intersection and also took down hydro and cable lines. The intersection was blocked off by police and fire for a number of hours while crews were called to the scene to attend to the tree and wires.
On August 23rd at approximately 1:30 am police were called to an Oak Bay residence for a report of a domestic assault had occurred between a mother and daughter. Injuries were minor and the daughter was requested by police to leave the residence. The investigation continues and charges are being considered.
