On February 13th, police responded to a single motor vehicle incident on UVIC Ring Road. The vehicle drove through an area of the road that had been patched with asphalt and gravel. Due to the weather conditions the gravel in that patched area had dispersed leaving a dip. The impact blew the right front tire and also tore off the axle. The vehicle was removed from the roadway and security placed orange markers around the area and they also made arrangements for road repairs.
On February 13th & 15th, the police responded to separate calls where two females were apprehended under the Mental Health Act (MHA)and transported to the hospital to be assessed by an Emergency Room Physician. The February 15th occurrence was called in by an Oak Bay Municipal employee who observed the female on the rocks at Cattle Point who was inappropriately dressed for the weather conditions. The female was acting in a manner that required police attendance. This individual was held for a medical assessment.
On February 16th, a three day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) was issued to a driver who consumed liquor and blew a “WARN” at a roadblock in south Oak Bay. A “WARN” reading indicates a blood alcohol concentration between 60 mg% and 99 mg%.
On February 17th, the Oak Bay Police stopped a driver who had liquor emanating from their breath. An Approved Screening Device was administered and both times the unit displayed a “FAIL” reading. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and a 30-day Vehicle Impoundment.
On February 18th, the police received a report of a mischief to a vehicle that was parked in the central area of Oak Bay. The registered owner drove her vehicle approximately half a block and noted three of her tires were flat. On closer inspection the rear passenger tire was slashed and the other two tires were intentionally deflated. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Police canvassed the immediate area and noted no other vehicles were damaged.
