Weekly Media Release for Apr. 3 – Apr. 9, 2023

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 60 calls for service during this period.

On April 3, 2023, at 8:17 PM, the Oak Bay Police were conducting speed enforcement on Beach Drive. A vehicle was observed travelling well over the posted speed limit of 40km/h. A LIDAR speed measuring device was used to target the vehicle and the vehicle was noted to be travelling 83km/h. An 18-year-old female driver, with a class 7 Novice driver’s licence, was issued a ticket for excessive speeding Section 148(1) MVA, with a fine of $368, and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. On April 6, 2023, the Oak Bay Police conducted a traffic stop, the driver a 57-year-old male, was prohibited from driving under the Motor Vehicle Act. The male was arrested and released on an Appearance Notice to attend court and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. (OB File 23-886)

Over the Easter long weekend, the Oak Bay Police were out conducting traffic enforcement throughout the municipality. Police issued the following Violation Tickets:

  • 7 – Speeding S. 146(7) MVA $138
  • 5 – Failing to Produce Driver’s Licence or Insurance S. 33(1) MVA $81
  • 4 – Fail to Stop at Stop Sign S. 186 MVA $167
  • 5 – Written warnings were also issued for various offences
