The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 67 calls for service that week.
On April 9th, OBPD attended the area of Beach Drive at Monterey Avenue in regard to Mischief to Property. Unknown person(s) had caused damage as they placed graffiti on the sea wall at this location. Photographs were taken of the graffiti and investigation is on-going. (OBPD file 2023-902)
On April 9th, OBPD attended the Oak Bay Recreation Centre in regard to a theft from the lockers in the gym area. A patron had their wallet stolen. Investigation is ongoing. Police would like to remind people to lock up their valuable to prevent any further thefts from occurring. (OBPD 2023-907)
On April 10th, OBPD attended the area of the Oak Bay Marina in regard to someone possibly shooting pigeons with a BB Gun. Police were unable to locate any deceased birds or any evidence to support this to have occurred. (OBPD 23-914)
On April 14th, OBPD officers attended Cattle Point to check the sobriety of small vessel operators returning to the boat launch. 2 approved screening device tests were administered and both individuals passed. (OBPD File 23-952)
On April 14th, OBPD attended the intersection of Oak Bay Ave and Foul Bay Rd. in regards to a motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist. Cyclist was transported to hospital for assessment. It does not appear the cyclist sustained any serious injuries. The 44 year-old female driver of the motor vehicle was issued a violation ticket for Fail to Yield on Left Turn with a fine amount of $167.00. (OBPD file 23-954)
On April 15th, OBPD attended the 800 Block of Beach Drive in regard to a single motor vehicle collision. The lone vehicle had collided into a speed limit sign causing it to be operable. The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene of the accident. Police did locate the 22 year-old female driver of motor vehicle at her residence. She was issued with a violation ticket for “Fail to Remain At The Scene Of Accident with a fine amount of $368.00. (OBPD file 2023-958)
On April 15th, OBPD attended 2000 block of Cadboro Bay Road in regard to a theft. Unknown suspect(s) had broken into a storage locker and stolen a bike and some tools. Total value of theft is approximately $750. (OBPD file 23-963)
On April 15th ,OBPD attended the area of McNeil Bay between Oliver and St. Patrick in regard to more Mischief to Property (graffiti) to the sea wall. Unknown person(s) had caused damage as they placed graffiti on the sea wall at this location. Photographs were taken of the graffiti and investigation is on-going. (OBPD file 2023-964)
On April 15th, OBPD attended the Windsor Park Pavilion in regard to a purposely set fire on the basketball court. Oak Bay Fire Dept. attended and extinguished a smoldering electronic device similar to a small radio which charred the concrete. No permanent damage was caused by fire. (OBPD file 23-968)
During the past week OBPD school resource officer provided new school crossing signs to crossing guards at Willows Public School to increase their visibility during school hours.
