Weekly Media Release for April 21-27, 2025

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 60 calls for service this week. 

Prohibited Driver / Immediate Roadside Prohibition

On April 26, 2025, around 4:00pm, an officer saw a car turning eastbound on Oak Bay Ave from Foul Bay Rd. The officer determined the license plate was registered to a prohibited driver. Police conducted a traffic stop at the corner of Mitchell St and Oak Bay Ave. The driver provided two breath samples into separate Approved Screening Devices, both of which resulted in a WARN reading. Police served the driver with an Immediate Roadside Prohibition and impounded the vehicle. The 31-year-old male also received an appearance notice with a future court date for driving while prohibited. (File 2025-1025)

Bank Robbery 

On April 22, 2025, a male suspect wearing a black cloak and sunglasses robbed a bank in the 2000 block of Cadboro Bay Road. No cash or items were taken, and no weapons were produced. The suspect fled east on Cadboro Bay Road on foot prior to police arrival.

OBPD attended the scene, along with numerous police units from SPD and VicPD, as well as the Integrated Canine Service (ICS) responding to assist. No injuries were reported, and the suspect was not located. A CCTV image of the suspect is attached. (File 2025-980)

Theft of Electric Scooter

On April 23, 2025, at 2:06 PM, a black Gyrocopters J30 electric scooter was reported stolen from the bicycle rack at the front of Oak Bay High School, located at 2121 Cadboro Bay Road. The owner left the scooter for approximately 20 minutes and returned to find the lock had been cut. The owner provided a stock photo of the scooter (attached). (File 2025-991)

Animal Call

On April 24, 2025, at 1:50pm, a citizen reported two dogs locked inside a vehicle parked in the 2500 block Estevan Ave. Police attended and saw that the dogs inside the car appeared to be overheating. Just prior to police taking action to assist the dogs, the owner walked up and apologized for leaving them in the vehicle. With warm weather approaching, police are reminding the public not to leave animals in vehicles. (File 2025-997)
