Weekly Media Release for April 28 to May 4, 2025

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 72 calls for service this week.

MVI – Motorcycle / Immediate Roadside Prohibition

On May 3, shortly after 11pm, a motorcycle crashed in the 200 block King George Terrace. The 37-year-old rider lost control before the bend, slid onto the sidewalk and then into a bush. A witness called police after seeing him lying on the ground with beer cans nearby. Police administered a roadside breathalyzer which resulted in a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition. The motorcycle was towed, and the male was released at the scene. He suffered minor injuries but declined medical attention. No one else was injured and there was no other property damage. (OBPD #2025-1099)

Excessive Speed

On the evening of April 30, police conducted speed enforcement in the 800 block Beach Drive. An officer observed a car going nearly 100km/h in a 40km/h zone. The officer stopped the vehicle and then impounded it for seven days. The driver received a violation ticket for Excessive Speed. (OBPD #2025-1056)

Stolen Boat Recovered

On the morning of May 1, police received a report of a theft of a Highfield dingy and 20hp Honda motor. The following day, with assistance from the RCMP, officers located the dingy beached at McNeil Bay. No one was nearby, and it appeared to be abandoned.  Officers freed the dingy and used rope to attach it to an RCMP police boat. Once secured, police towed the dingy to a new location for the owner to collect. The value of the recovered dingy was approximately $16,000. (OBPD #2025-1061)
