The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 68 calls for service this week.

Impaired Driving & Driving Prohibitions

24-Hour Driving Suspension – Alcohol
May 12 – Cadboro Bay Rd
An officer stopped a vehicle with inactive insurance. During the stop, the officer detected an odour of alcohol. A roadside investigation led to a 24-hour driving prohibition. The driver was also ticketed for no insurance. (OBPD file 2025-1180)

90-Day Immediate Roadside Prohibition
May 18 – 1700 block of Lansdowne Rd
At approximately 2:48 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle driving without headlights. A traffic stop led to an impaired driving investigation. The 28-year-old male driver received a 90-day roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. (OBPD file 2025-1242)

Roadblock – Impaired Driving Check
May 13 – Various Locations
Night shift officers conducted a roadblock to check for impaired drivers. Approximately 60 vehicles were stopped. Two violation tickets were issued for unrelated offences, and four verbal warnings were given. No impaired drivers were located. (OBPD file 2025-1195)

Traffic Violations

Excessive Speeding – Motorcycle
May 12 – 900 block of Beach Dr
A 19-year-old male motorcyclist was caught driving 145 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. He was issued a ticket for excessive speed and his motorcycle was impounded for seven days. (OBPD file 2025-1186)

Excessive Speeding & Novice Driver Violation
May 18 – 800 block of Beach Dr
An 18-year-old male was clocked at 98 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. He received tickets for excessive speed and failing to display an “N” sign. His vehicle was impounded for seven days. (OBPD file 2025-1249)

Collision Involving Child Cyclist

May 14 – 2000 block of Lansdowne Rd

On May 14, 2025, at approximately 4:08 p.m., the Oak Bay Police Department (OBPD) responded to a report of a collision involving a child cyclist and a vehicle. Emergency services, including Oak Bay Fire and BC Emergency Health Services, also attended the scene. The child, who was wearing a helmet, was assessed at the scene and transported to hospital as a precaution. No serious injuries have been reported. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police are speaking with witnesses and continue to investigate (OBPD file 2025-1205)

Theft

Retail Theft – Pharmasave
May 12 – Oak Bay Ave
Two female suspects stole approximately $693 worth of merchandise from Pharmasave. The theft was reported the following day. Police are working to identify the suspects. (OBPD file 2025-1190)
