The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 76 calls for service this week.
2026-980 – Mischief
On Tuesday April 7th at 8:55 p.m. OBPD were made aware of a vehicle that had been extensively damaged while parked in the 2000 block of McNeill Avenue after suffering mechanical issues. Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact Oak Bay Police.
2026-1001 – Community Engagement
On April 9th, 2026, Community Officer delivered a fraud awareness presentation to residents of a local independent living retirement community. Police encourage residents to remain vigilant to common scams, including phone, email, and door-to-door frauds. If something feels suspicious, verify before acting.
2026-1010 – Traffic Enforcement
On April 9th, between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., Oak Bay Police assisted BC Highway Patrol (CRD-IRSU) in conducting a roadblock focused on impaired driving enforcement. Approximately 100 vehicles checked, with several roadside screening samples administered. Plan for a safe ride home – designate a driver, use a taxi, or rideshare.
2026-1019 – Suspicious Person
On April 10th at approximately 3:30 p.m., OBPD received a report from a vigilant member of the public in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue. The caller observed an individual they believed to be suspicious entering a neighbouring business. The building was briefly contained by Oak Bay Police, with assistance from the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), until contact was made with the business owner. The situation was determined to be lawful, and there was no risk to public safety. Police thank the caller for their attentiveness and remind the public to report suspicious activity in their neighbourhood.
2026-1025 – Vehicle Impoundment (Impaired Driving)
On April 10th at approximately 8:00 p.m., Oak Bay Police responded to the 2000 block of Cadboro Bay Road for a report of a suspected impaired driver. The driver failed a roadside screening test. The driver’s licence was immediately suspended, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Public reminder: If you observe erratic or impaired driving, call 911 when it is safe to do so.
Community Engagement – Monterey Middle School
On April 10, 2026, members connected with a group of students from Monterey Middle School as they made their way to skate at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre. Officers assisted with skate preparation and joined the group on the ice as an invited guest. Oak Bay Police are grateful for the thoughtful invitation and the warm welcome from students and staff.
