The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 71 calls for service this week.
Excessive Speed
On August 14, 2024, at 7:20pm, the Oak Bay Police were conducting summertime “Counter Attack” enforcement in the area of Beach Dr and Newport Ave. Police observed a vehicle Northbound on Beach Dr travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle speed was locked in with a radar and the vehicle was noted to be travelling 90km/h in a 40km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as an 18-year-old woman, driving with a Class 7 Novice driver’s licence, and her father and registered owner were in the passenger seat. The woman was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speed S. 148(1) MVA $368, and the 2024 Porsche Macan was towed and impounded for 7 days. (OB File 24-2174)
Assault
On August 15, 2024, at 5:45 pm, the Oak Bay Police responded to an assault at Central Ave and St Patrick St. A BC Transit bus driver advised that a male became irate because he was advised that the bus was not departing for 20 minutes. The male then slapped and spat on the bus driver. The 29-year-old man was arrested for assault and held for a bail hearing, as the male has two outstanding charges for assault and assault causing bodily harm from the Victoria area. The 29-year-old man was held in court and his next appearance is scheduled for August 23, 2024. The bus driver was not injured. (OB File 24-2185)
