The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 80 calls for service this week.
On August 21, 2022, just after midnight, an Oak Bay Police Department officer was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Foul Bay Rd and Newton St. The officer observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Foul Bay Rd going 78 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted as a result. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected a strong smell of liquor coming from her breath. An approved screening device was used to obtain two breath samples roadside with a result of “fail” both times. The 49-year-old female driver was subsequently given a 90-day driving prohibition, a 30-day vehicle impoundment and a violation ticket for speeding, Fail to Produce Licence and Fail to Display N. On August 22, 2022, the Oak Bay Police Department received a report of mischief to a vehicle in the 1000 block of Falkland Rd. The complainant reported that sometime overnight, someone had scratched their vehicle’s bumper. The damage was superficial. There are no suspects in this file. (OB 2022-2599)
On August 23, 2022, at 8:00pm, the Oak Bay Police Department received a report of a theft from auto in the 1500 block of Clive Dr. The complainant reported the theft had taken place with in the last 24 hours while the vehicle was left unlocked parked in the driveway. A Samsung tablet was taken. The value of the theft was $350. There are no suspects in this file. (OB 2022-2617)
On August 24, 2022, shortly after 6:30am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a break and enter in progress in the 90 block of King George Terrace. The complainant reported seeing a male enter a vacant house and remove copper wiring and an electrical box. Police attended and searched the area, however, were unable to locate the suspect. The suspect is described as Caucasian, medium build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, grey shorts, white bicycle helmet with black trim, black running shoes with white soles, and riding a white mountain bike. FOLLOW UP TO- August 21st reports of multiple break and enters in the 3100 block of Rutland Rd and the 3100 block of Beach Dr. Police have identified and arrested an individual. Charges were forwarded to the Crown for charge approval. A 46-year-old male is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing. (OBPD 2022-2596 and 2022-2597)
