Theft from Auto

On Tuesday, August 29, at 7:12am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a theft from an automobile in the 2000 block of Eastdowne Rd. The resident reported that their vehicle had been entered overnight and an air compressor and tools were stolen. No suspects have been identified. (OB2023-2602)

Impaired Driving

On Wednesday August 30, 2023, at 1:03 am, an Oak Bay Police Officer conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle being driven at a high rate of speed. The officer subsequently stopped the vehicle and detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage from the driver. The driver provided a breath sample roadside and subsequently blew a “fail” on an Approved Screening Device. As a result, the 31-year-old male driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and their vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days. The driver also received a violation ticket for Speed Against Municipal Sign 21-40 km contrary to the Motor Vehicle Act Sec 146(7) for a total of $196.00 (OBPD 2023-2612)

Impaired Driving

On Wednesday August 30, 2023, at 10:54 pm, an Oak Bay Police Officer conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driving over the posted speed limit. The officer subsequently stopped the vehicle and detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage from the driver. The driver provided a breath sample roadside and subsequently blew a “fail” on an Approved Screening Device. As a result, the 43-year-old male driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and their vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days. (OBPD 2023-2627)

Excessive Speed

On Thursday August 31, at approximately 5:30pm, while conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Beach Dr and Newport Ave. a 51-year-old male was stopped for going 93 km/h in a 40km/h zone. The driver was issued a violation ticket for Excessive Speeding under section 148(1) of the Motor vehicle act with a fine of $368.00. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days (OB2023-2554)

Excessive Speed

On Sunday September 3, at approximately 11:30pm, while conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Beach Dr and Newport Ave. a 21-year-old male was stopped for going 115 km/h in a 40km/h zone. The driver was issued a violation ticket for Excessive Speeding under section 148(1) of the Motor vehicle act with a fine of $368.00. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days. (OB2023-2684)
