Weekly Media Release for Aug. 8th – Aug. 14th, 2022

On August 10th, a complainant reported that her black Ebike had been stolen the previous night from her residence in the 3000 block of Murdoch Crescent. Unfortunately, there is no evidence to identify a suspect. (OBPD file 2022-2450)

On August 12th a complainant reported that the previous night his house keys and car key FOB were stolen after mistakenly being left on the roof of his vehicle in his own driveway in the 1000 block of St Patrick St. The complainant was advised to have the FOB re-coded and to get a locksmith to re-key the doors to his residence. There are no leads for a suspect. (OBPD file 2022-2480)

On August 12th members of the OBPD were conducting a road check at which time one member observed an open can of alcohol in a vehicle. The 25 year-old male driver provided a breath sample that resulted in a 12 hr. driving suspension. The driver was also issued a violation ticket for driving contrary to restrictions for alcohol. On August 13th a member was conducting speed enforcement on Cedar Hill X Rd and observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver was found to be driving 41 km/h over the speed limit. The fifty six year-old female driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed with a fine amount of $368 and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. (OBPD file 2022-2495)

On August 14th a member conducting laser speed enforcement captured a vehicle traveling 43 km/hr over the speed limit. The 18 year-old male driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed with a fine amount of $368, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. (OBPD file 2022-2505)

The OBPD is very proud to welcome two new sworn members to the police department. Cst. Cheryl Goard and Cst. Adam Goard started this past week. They both previously served with the York Police Department in Ontario. Welcome!
Oak Bay Police members attended numerous Block Watch/street parties this past week. These parties are a great opportunity for members of the community to get to know their OBPD police officers.
The OBPD EV was brought to the Camosun College Charge Your Ride event this past Saturday. This event welcomes a multitude of electric vehicles as well as electric bikes. The public had a great time exploring the different options for electric vehicles.
