On Tuesday, August 10th, the Oak Bay Police received a theft of bicycle report in the 1200 block of Oliver Street. The black and yellow Cinelli single gear bicycle was stolen from an open garage. The bicycle is valued at $3000.00. If you have any information regarding this theft contact the Oak Bay Police Department at 250-592-2424.

On Tuesday, August 10th, the Oak Bay Police attended to a break and enter that occurred in a underground parking lot of a condominium in the 1300 block of Newport Avenue. The unknown suspect smashed the rear window of a 2008 white BMW and it appears that nothing was stolen. There was also an attempt break and enter in another underground parking area across the street. The buildings did not have CCTV.

On Thursday, August 12th, the Oak Bay Police received a theft from motor vehicle report in the 1400 block of Beach Drive. The registered owner noticed that someone stole a pair of silver/black Rhino roof racks from her 2000 blue Subaru Impreza. These racks are specifically for frameless windows.

On Sunday, August 15th, a resident reported that a suspect had entered their unlocked garage in the 1100 block of Roslyn Rd and attempted to steal an electric car charger. The suspect managed to damage the charger cable but was unable to remove the charger unit.

On Sunday, August 15th, after midnight a patrol member observed a 26 year old male riding a black BMX bicycle with no helmet and no lights. The cyclist was carrying two large sports bags on his handlebars, a hoodie pulled over his head and his mouth and nose was covered with a bandana. The cyclist was informed that he was being stopped under the motor vehicle act for not wearing his helmet and not having lights. The male initially provided a false name and then attempted to flee the scene on his bicycle. The male was arrested for two outstanding warrants and breaching seven of his conditions on his Probation Order. A search incident to the lawful arrest produced a concealed 26” sword down his pants, break and enter tools along with a debit card that did not belong to him. It is believed that the BMX bike he was riding was stolen. Additional criminal charges were also forwarded to Crown Counsel:
– Possession of Controlled Substance (suspected to be methamphetamine)
– Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
– Carrying a Concealed Weapon
– Obstruction (providing a false name)
– Possession of Break and Enter Tools
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
The male was held in custody for morning court.
