Fraudulent Cheque and Gift Card Scam
On December 28, officers responded to a report of a fraudulent cheque and gift card scam. The victim was contacted via social media by an individual claiming to offer financial support. After receiving a fraudulent e-cheque, the victim purchased gift cards as requested and later discovered the cheque was invalid. The suspect also sent threatening messages and disturbing images. Officers provided safety advice, including securing social media accounts and avoiding further contact. (File 2025-3695)
Fraud Prevention Tip:
Be cautious with e-cheques. While legitimate e-cheques exist, scammers often send fake ones that appear valid at first but later bounce. Never send money, gift cards, or personal information to someone you’ve only met online, and wait for funds to fully clear before taking any action.

Safety Reminder: Shining lasers and lights at drivers is extremely dangerous. It can cause temporary blindness or distraction, increasing the risk of collisions and serious injuries. This behaviour can lead to arrest and criminal charges.
Drug-Impaired Driving Investigation
On December 25 at approximately 10:46 p.m., officers responded to a report of a female slumped over in a running vehicle in the 2300 block of Dunlevy Street. After failing a Standard Field Sobriety Test and a Drug Recognition Evaluation, the driver was served a 24-hour driving prohibition. The vehicle was towed, and the investigation is ongoing.
