Weekly Media Release for Dec.23 – Dec. 29, 2024

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 67 calls for service this week, marking a 15% increase in call volume compared to the Christmas week in the previous year. Officers dealt with a variety of incidents, including domestic disputes, mental health-related calls, and property crimes.

Mischief

On December 25, 2024, police responded to a mischief complaint in the 2200 block of Cadboro Bay Road. The keyhole to the front door of an apartment complex had been damaged, and the rear door lock was also malfunctioning. The incident is believed to have occurred between 5:00 PM and 7:55 PM. There are no suspects at this time. (File 24-3609)

Break and Enter

On December 27, 2024, at 11:59 PM, police responded to a report of three males attempting to break into a home under construction on Lansdowne Road. The property had an interactive security system with CCTV and was surrounded by construction fencing.

The suspects, described as three males in their early 20s, fled before officers arrived. It appears they did not gain entry or take anything. (File 24-3638)
