The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 73 calls for service this week.
Theft from Vehicle
On December 30, 2024, the Oak Bay Police received a report of mischief and theft from a motor vehicle. The complainant reported that their vehicle, parked in the 2400 block of Florence St, had a window broken overnight, and fishing gear valued at $1,000 was stolen. The matter is still under investigation. (OB File 24-3656)
Theft of Vehicle
On December 30, 2024, the Oak Bay Police received a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The complainant stated that they had parked their vehicle in the 2800 block of Heron St, leaving it unlocked with the key inside. The vehicle was stolen overnight. On January 4, 2025, the Nanaimo RCMP located the vehicle unoccupied. The owner has been notified, and both matters are still under investigation. (OB File 24-3658)
Motor Vehicle Collision
On December 30, 2024, at 8:59 PM, the Oak Bay Police responded to a single-vehicle collision in the 3500 block of Beach Dr. A witness reported that the vehicle struck a lamp post, and the driver walked away. Police were unable to identify the driver and issued Violation Tickets to the 48-year-old registered owner under Section 83(2) of the Motor Vehicle Act, which holds the owner liable for any contravention of the Act. The tickets issued were for:
- Drive Without Consideration (Section 144(1)(b) of the Motor Vehicle Act) with a fine of $196
- Fail to Stop When in Accident Resulting in Damage to Property (Section 68(3) of the Motor Vehicle Act) with a fine of $196
- Fail to Remain at the Scene of Accident (Section 68(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act) with a fine of $368
The vehicle sustained heavy damage, estimated at $15,000, and was towed from the scene. (OB File 24-3671)
Theft of Vehicle
On January 4, 2025, at 7:00 PM, the Oak Bay Police received a report of a stolen motor vehicle, a black Range Rover Velar. The complainant reported that the vehicle was parked in the 2100 block of Cadboro Bay Rd and was stolen sometime between 1:30 PM and 6:50 PM. The complainant mentioned that they had lost a key to the vehicle within the last 10 days but had locked the vehicle before it was stolen. The matter is still under investigation. (OB File 25-44)
