IMPAIRED DRIVING ENFORCEMENT

On the evening of January 31, Police conducted a roadblock targeting impaired drivers in south Oak Bay. Police suspended a 24-year-old novice driver who had a Class 7 license after they were found to be driving with alcohol in their blood. Police would like to remind the public that drivers with a Class 7 (“N” or “L”) license are not allowed to use a motor vehicle with any alcohol in their blood. (File 2026-335)

Fraud Warning – Gift Card Scams
On January 27, Oak Bay Police received a report of a fraud involving a local senior who was persuaded by unknown individuals to purchase $2,000 in gift cards. Unfortunately, the suspects could not be identified, and the cards could not be cancelled to reimburse the funds. Police remind the public that legitimate businesses, government agencies, and law enforcement will never request payment by gift cards. Any unexpected demand for gift cards, especially when combined with pressure or urgency, is a strong indicator of a scam. Residents are encouraged to pause, verify the request with a trusted third party, and contact police if they believe they are being targeted. (File 2026‑278)
