The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 57 calls for service this past week.
Assault near Gyro Park
On January 7, 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM, police responded to an assault that occurred on the beach between Gyro Park and the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. The complainant alleged he had spoken to a man regarding his off-leash dog. As the complainant walked away, the man tackled him and punched him several times, resulting in minor injuries. The suspect, described as a Caucasian male, 5’11”, slim build, 40–45 years old, with brown hair and accompanied by a large white dog, fled on foot toward the Gyro Park parking lot. (File 25-67)
Apple Watch found at Willows Beach
On January 1, 2025, shortly after the polar bear swim, a citizen found an Apple Watch at Willows Beach. It was turned into police on January 11. If this is your watch, please contact the Oak Bay Police. (File 25-96)
Project Sea Watch
The Oak Bay Police will be increasing their community presence on shore and in local waters throughout 2025. The public are invited to join officers at Turkey Head Walkway on Saturday, January 18, at 10:00 AM to discuss issues such as derelict vessels, water safety, and theft prevention.
