Weekly Media Release for January 10th – 16th, 2022

On January 10th a complainant reported their EV charging cable was stolen overnight in the 2000 block of Cavendish Ave. The cable was plugged into their electric vehicle at the time. Unfortunately, there was no CCTV to help in identifying the person responsible. (OBPD file 2022-88)

On January 10th a complainant living in the 2000 block of Midland Rd reported an unknown youth had entered his unlocked residence via the front door. An item was stolen but was found in the front yard when police attended. File is still under investigation. (OBPD file 2022-90)

On January 12th police responded to a report of someone having entered into a utility trailer at a construction site in the 1900 block of Crescent Rd. The bar locking mechanism was broken in order to make entry. Nothing was reported to be stolen. No suspects have been identified in this matter. (OBPD file 2022-117)

On January 15th a complainant reported that he was the victim of an online scam after he paid $1950 to secure a rental property. Unfortunately, the ad was fraudulent. File is still under investigation. (OBPD file 2022-140)

On January 16th at 2:55 a.m. an OBPD member conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle that was excessively speeding in the 2700 block of Foul Bay Rd. The 23 year old male driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. The fine amount was $368. (OBPD file 2022-150)

On January 16th a very distinct wooden cane was turned into the OBPD. The cane was located on Willows Beach in the morning. If you know who this belongs to please contact the OBPD at 250-592-2424. (OBPD file 2022-151)

On January 16th the OBPD and Oak Bay Fire responded to a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles at the intersection of Foul Bay Rd/Lansdowne Rd. One of the vehicle’s airbags were deployed. The BC Ambulance Service attended and both drivers were cleared medically. There were no passengers in the vehicles at the time. The 73 year old female driver of one of the vehicles was issued a violation ticket for Fail to Obey Red Light at Intersection. The fine amount was $167. (OBPD file 2022-155)

This is a friendly reminder of the school zone for St Michaels University School – Junior Campus in the 800 block of Victoria Ave. The speed zone in the area is 30 km/h on school days between 8 am and 5 pm. Please be extra careful when driving there during those times.

This past week the OBPD responded to numerous calls for service with their partner agencies of Oak Bay Fire and the BC Ambulance Service. As always, the OBPD would like to thank these agencies for the amazing care and concern they provide to the residents and visitors of Oak Bay.
