On Monday, January 17th, a patrol member attended the 900 block of Foul Bay Road regarding a mischief incident. The homeowner reported at approximately 2 p.m. he heard a bang and thought it might be one of his kids that caused the noise. He realized later when he looked at this front door, that the front door was damaged by someone either shouldering the door or using a pry tool. No entry was gained into the residence, neighbourhood enquires, and CCTV footage did not result in any further investigative leads.

On Thursday, January 20th, a patrol member was conducting traffic enforcement in the 3400 block of Cadboro Bay Road. A vehicle was noted to have an expired decal and police records confirmed the vehicle was uninsured. The vehicle was towed, and the driver was issued a violation ticket for no insurance with a prescribed fine of $598.00.

On Thursday, January 20th, the Oak Bay Police Department received a fraud report from a local resident who provided several hundred dollars worth of gift cards including the gift card numbers when a pop up appeared on his computer. The homeowner contacted the number that appeared on the pop up, and the caller then demanded additional monies for a computer warranty to protect his computer at which time the resident realized he was being scammed. The homeowner contacted his bank who were able to cancel the transaction and refunded his credit card. The homeowner provided the police with the phone number from the fraudster. Police contacted the individual and they were informed that a police investigation has been initiated and to immediately cease all contact with the complainant. Police called the number a few minutes later and the number was disconnected.

On Thursday, January 20th, the Oak Bay Police responded to an apartment complex located in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue. The suspect used a metal top off a garbage can and smashed the front door to the apartment and pulled the fire alarm on the fourth floor. The incident was captured on video and the suspect was immediately recognized as he is well known to police. The male suspect was located a few blocks away from the apartment and he was arrested for break and enter and mischief. The accused was released on an undertaking to attend court at a later date.

On Friday, January 21st, the Oak Bay Police received a theft from motor vehicle complaint in the 2000 block of Marne Street. The unlocked vehicle was parked in the driveway and in the morning the owner noticed his car doors were wide open. The suspect stole 2 pairs of aviator style sunglasses (Gucci and Dolce/Gabana) and a Lego ‘Harry Potter’ set.

On Friday, January 21st, a patrol member was conducting traffic enforcement in the 3400 block of Cadboro Bay Road. A vehicle was pulled over for speeding and the officer detected an odor of liquor emanating from the driver’s breath. An approved screening device (ASD) was administered, and the driver provided two suitable “WARN” samples. The 41-year-old female driver was issued a 3-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 3 days. The driver was also issued a violation ticket for speeding and fail to produce her driver’s licence.

On Sunday, January 23rd, a patrol officer noted a vehicle driving erratically in the 2400 block of Foul Bay Road. A traffic stop was initiated, and the 47-year-old male driver showed signs of liquor indicia. An ASD was administered, and the driver provided two suitable “FAIL” samples. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
