The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 71 calls for service this week.
Mischief
On July 3, 2024, between 0300hrs and 0500 hrs, residents in the area of McNeill Ave., Victoria St., and Hampshire Rd. reported a group of youths banging on their doors and running away. The group were described as wearing all black clothing, including face coverings. Several of the homes provided CCTV footage, damage occurred to one of the doors. Police are investigating and looking to identify the individuals responsible. Police request any additional video or information be forwarded to Youth Liaison Officer Cst. Mishrigi at 250 592-2424. Traffic Complaint (Bike Safety)
On July 4, 2024, Oak Bay Police received a complaint regarding members of the public cycling without helmets. Police would like to remind cyclists that all riders of any age are required to wear an approved helmet and failure to do so may result in a violation ticket under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act. The fine for this offence is $29. (OB 24-1714)
Theft From Vehicle/Breach of Court Order
On July 5, 2024, at approximately 0056 hrs, Oak Bay Police received reports of a suspected prowler entering backyards in the 3200 block of Woodburn Avenue. Officers attended the area and located a male rummaging inside a pick-up truck parked on the roadway. The male was found to be in breach of several court orders including a 10 p.m. curfew and not to handle or occupy a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission. The male was arrested and held in-custody to await a bail hearing. (OB 24-1718)
No Insurance
On July 5, 2024, at 1225, Oak Bay Police were patrolling in the 200 block of King George Terrace when an officer observed a Mitsubishi Delica. A query of the plate showed inactive insurance as of 2024-03-16. Police conducted a traffic stop and the female driver, who was not the owner of the vehicle was issued violation tickets for Fail to Produce Drivers Licence and Fail to Produce Insurance, under the Motor Vehicle Act Section 33(1), with a fine of $81 for each offence.
