Weekly Media Release for July 8 – July 14, 2024

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 63 calls for service this week.

 24 Hour Prohibition

On July 8, 2024, at 1:00am, the Oak Bay Police were on patrol around Crescent Rd and Lorne Terrace, when a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu failed to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle failed to stop at a second stop sign and police conducted a traffic stop on the Malibu. The driver, a 67-year-old woman, displayed indica consistent with having consumed alcohol. Police formed the opinion that the woman’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was affected by alcohol. The woman was issued a 24-hour driving Prohibition, a Violation Ticket for Fail to Obey Stop Sign S. 186 MVA $167 and her vehicle was towed and impounded for 24 hours. (OB File 24-1749)

 Collision

On July 8, 2024, at 8:17am, the Oak Bay Police received a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Lansdowne Rd and Foul Bay Rd. Witnesses on scene reported that the first vehicle was Eastbound on Lansdowne Rd and failed to stop at the red light and struck the second vehicle who was Northbound on Foul Bay Rd. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to the hospital by an ambulance as a precaution, however it was determined that the driver did not suffer injuries. The 27-year-old woman driving the first vehicle was issued a Violation Ticket for Failing to Stop at Red Light S. 127(2)(c) MVA $109. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The damage to both vehicles was estimated to be $9000. (OB File 24-1750)

Special Event

On July 11, 2024, the Oak Bay Police worked in conjunction with the Arts and Culture Programmer for the Oak Bay Parks and Recreation for the Arts Alive Opening Celebration. Police escorted a bike train throughout Oak Bay stopping at the seven art installations. The newly bike trained Oak Bay Police Reserves also assisted with the escort.
