The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 83 for service this past week.
OB24-1822/1826 SUSPICOUS PERSON/BREAK AND ENTER
On July 15th, 2024, OBPD responded to the area of Nottingham Rd for a suspicious male attempting to gain entry to a home. The male was described as black, 6ft or taller, thin, wearing a teal-coloured hoodie and cargo shorts. While investigating, a second call was received in the same neighbourhood of the same suspect in a resident’s back yard. The male fled the area when advised the Police were being contacted and OBPD was unable to locate the suspicious male.
On July 16th, 2024, at 0730 hours OBPD attended a call on Cadboro Bay Rd where the same suspicious male from the previous two incidents was located inside a residence by the homeowner. OBPD attended and the unhoused male was arrested and held for bail on charges of Break and Enter. Residents are asked to be aware of suspicious activity in their area and to call Police as soon as possible to report suspicious activity or persons.
OB24-1836 MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION
July 17th, 2024, OBPD attended the intersection of Foul Bay Rd and Milton Street for reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Emergency crews arrived on scene and were grateful to find the pedestrian had no serious injuries. As a result of the investigation a 17-year-old Novice driver was charged with failing to stop at a red light.
OB24-1882 FOUND DOG
July 20th, 2024, OBPD received a call from a local resident in the area of Middowne Rd and Westdowne Rd for a found dog. OBPD took custody of an elderly Yorkshire Terrier with no tags or collar and began patrolling the area looking for the owners. A short time later the owner of “Nelson” was located searching the area and the pair were reunited. OBPD would like to remind residents that in the event a dog is lost or found, utilizing social media can help to get the word around. ROAM is also a volunteer service available that can assist in searching for lost pets and assisting in circulating information on lost/found pets.
