Weekly Media Release for July 20 to July 26

On July 20th an Oak Bay member was doing traffic enforcement when he observed a vehicle driving without any taillights on. The vehicle was pulled over and after speaking to the female (class 7) driver it was determined she had been drinking. The female blew two “Fail” readings on the roadside screening device and was issued a 90-day prohibition and her vehicle was impounded. (OB File 20-2216)

On July 21st the Oak Bay Police received a report of a stolen boat motor from the Cattle Point boat launch area. The 35lb black Minn Kota trolling motor was left at the boat launch and it was gone when the owner went back to retrieve it. (OB File 20-2230)

On July 21st the Oak Bay Police received a theft from auto report in the 2400 block of Esplanade. The owners Fanny Pack, with keys, ID and money, was removed from the unlocked vehicle. (OB File 20-2240)

On July 22nd Oak Bay Police received a report of a suspicious male in the 3000 block of Cadboro Bay Rd. The homeowner heard shuffling coming from the back of her residence and when she looked outside, she saw, what she believed to be, a silhouette of a male. The homeowner did not report it to the police until two days later. Oak Bay Police want you to please call at the time the suspicious occurrences are happening and not wait to call. On July 23rd the Oak Bay Police received a mischief report in the 2100 block of Windsor Rd. The homeowner noticed that her outdoor wall sconces appeared to have been tampered with and pulled on. Unknown when this occurred, and no suspects identified. (OB File 20-2252)

The Oak Bay Police received six calls this week regarding a suspicious male surreptitiously filming people at Willows Beach. The male has been identified and spoken to about his behaviour. Unfortunately, there is nothing illegal about
filming people at a beach. If you see someone acting suspiciously please call the police at the time of the incident. (OB Files 20-2238/2247/2257/2272/2273/2285)

With the beautiful weather upon us, the Oak Bay Police want to remind drivers not to leave their pets inside their vehicles. Harmful and life-threatening effects can occur in a short time in a hot car. In the hot weather the best place for your fury friend is at home where there is water and shade. Enjoy the weather!
