The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 82 calls for service this week.
Collision
On July 2, police responded to a single-vehicle collision in the 2200 block of Cedar Hill Cross Road. A vehicle driven by a 77-year-old woman struck two unoccupied parked vehicles and flipped onto its side. The driver was transported to hospital for assessment with minor injuries. There were no signs of impairment. One parked vehicle was towed due to damage: the other remained drivable. A violation ticket was issued under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without consideration. (File 2025-1764)
Fraud
A resident reported being defrauded of funds after receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be from a financial institution. The caller directed the resident to a fraudulent website, resulting in unauthorized withdrawals from two accounts. The financial institution is investigating, and the resident has taken steps to enhance cybersecurity. The public is reminded to be cautious of unsolicited calls. Theft of Lawnmower
On July 3, a lawn mower was stolen from a front yard in the 2400 block of Beach Drive while the homeowner briefly stepped inside. A witness reported the suspect made a comment suggesting the item was free. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, 50–60 years old, wearing a black ballcap and black shirt. The stolen item is a black Yardworks gas-powered lawn mower. Patrols were conducted, but the suspect was not located. (File 2025-1777)
Theft of Bicycles
On July 5, two bicycles were reported stolen from a residence in the 900 block of Foul Bay Road. One is a navy-blue Fuji Track single-speed racer with a red rear tire and pedal straps; the other is a green Opus Ivan town bike with a bell. (File 2025-1793)
Indecent Act
On July 5, at approximately 2:20 p.m., police received a report of an indecent act at Willows Beach. A beachgoer observed a man engaging in sexually explicit behaviour near the boardwalk. The suspect is described as a male, 30–40 years old, medium-dark complexion, short black hair shaved on the sides, wearing black shorts and a blue t-shirt. The suspect left the area before police arrived.
Public spaces such as beaches and parks are meant to be safe and welcoming for everyone. Acts of public indecency are illegal and can result in criminal charges. Oak Bay Police have increased patrols in the area and are committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of all beach users. (File 2025-1800)
Suspicious Person – Deal Street Area
Overnight on July 5, a male was captured on CCTV entering backyards between 2:45 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. in the area of Deal Street and Linkleas Avenue. The male was described as wearing a blanket and carrying a hockey stick. Extra patrols are being conducted in the area. (Files 2025-1801 & 2025-1805)
Suspicious Person – Upper Terrace Road
On July 6 at 4:00 p.m., a male was observed on a home security system walking onto a property in the 3900 block of Upper Terrace Road. The individual walked to the back of the residence, looked through windows, and took photos with a cellphone. No attempt was made to enter the home. The male is described as Caucasian, approximately 5’10” tall, slim build, with brown hair greying at the sides, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. (File 2025-1811)
