The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 74 calls for service this week.
On March 6th, an Oak Bay Police member was called to assist Sidney RCMP members with an impaired driving investigation that required a Drug Recognition Expert. The Oak Bay Police Department has three DRE trained members who are regularly called to assist in investigating drug related impaired driving investigations. This investigation is still ongoing by the RCMP. (OB File 22-668)
On March 9th, an Oak Bay member was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Oak Bay Ave and Foul Bay Rd. The member observed the driver of the vehicle not wearing his seat belt. Upon further investigation the officer determined that the 66 year old male was impaired. A sobriety check was conducted, and the driver was subsequently given a 24 hour driving prohibition and a violation ticket for failing to wear a seat belt. The vehicle was impounded 24 hours. On March 10, Oak Bay Police responded to a report of a motorcycle driving at a high rate of speed in the area of Cattle point. Police attended the area but were unable to locate the motorcycle. (OB File 22-693)
On March 11, the Oak Bay Police responded to a theft in the 2000 Block of Bowker Ave. The complainant reported that they had a Dell laptop delivered to their residence and it was stolen from their porch. (OB File 22-698)
On March 12, the Oak Bay Police received a report of a residential Break and Enter in the 2000 Block of Goldsmith St. The complainant returned to file their residence entered through an unlocked patio door. The suspect(s) targeted several areas of the residence and stole electronics and other personal items. (OB File 22-711)
On March 12, Oak Bay members were conducting Counterattack road block traffic enforcement in the area of Beach Dr and Windsor Rd in an attempt to get impaired drivers off the road. During one traffic stop, the officer determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. A sobriety check was conducted, and the driver, a 23 year old female, was subsequently given a 24 hour driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded 24 hours. (OB File 22-725)
On March 12, An Oak Bay member was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Oak Bay Ave and Foul Bay Rd. Police observed a vehicle drifting in and out of its lane. The vehicle was stopped in the area of Richmond Rd and Oak Bay Ave. for speeding. During the course of the traffic stop, the officer determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver, a 24 year old female, was subsequently given a 90 driving prohibition, a 30 day vehicle impoundment, and a violation ticket for speeding. (OB File 22-727)
On March 13, an Oak Bay member was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Foul Bay Rd and Newton St. The member observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped for travelling at 90 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The driver was subsequently given a violation ticket excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
