National Police Week 

National Police Week began on May 10th; The Oak Bay Police Department recognizes and expresses gratitude for the dedicated officers, civilian staff, volunteers, and community partners who work every day to help keep Oak Bay safe. Police Week is an opportunity to highlight the strong relationships between police and the community, while recognizing the professionalism, compassion, and commitment required in modern policing. It is also a time to acknowledge the sacrifices made by police personnel and their families, including missed holidays, family events, long night shifts, and responding to difficult and often traumatic calls for service. Oak Bay Police proudly acknowledge the service and contributions of all those who support public safety in our community.

Excessive Speeding 

On May 11, 2026, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Oak Bay Police conducted targeted speed enforcement in the 900 block of Beach Drive and stopped a vehicle travelling 84 km/h in a posted 40 km/h zone. The driver, a novice license holder, was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded for seven (7) days. Oak Bay Police remind motorists that excessive speed significantly increases the risk of serious injury, particularly in residential and waterfront areas. Drivers are urged to obey posted speed limits and drive to conditions. (File 26-1348)

Motor Vehicle Collision

On May 13, 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Oak Bay Police responded to a motor vehicle incident in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Avenue after a vehicle was driven into a pedestrian courtyard from an adjacent parking area. The vehicle struck a wall at low speed, causing minor damage to both the vehicle and the building. No injuries were reported. Police determined the driver was unlicensed at the time of the incident and issued multiple violation tickets. The vehicle was towed from the scene. (File 26-1372).
