The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 90 calls for service this past week.
2023-1463 Drive without Insurance
On May 30th, the Oak Bay Police were in the area of Beach Dr and Dorset Rd conducting traffic enforcement when an officer observed a vehicle approaching them. A valid insurance check revealed that the vehicle had not been insured since February 2023. The vehicle was stopped, and the registered owner of the vehicle was issued a violation ticket for driving without insurance and issued a $598.00 fine.
2023-1466 Mischief![]()
On May 30th, at 12:10 pm, the Oak Bay Police received a report of mischief in the 800 block of Monterey Ave. The complainant reported someone had spraypainted the basketball court and a rock had been thrown through a window. The damage was reported to the school board. No estimated value of damage was provided. No suspect(s) have been identified at this time.
2023-1483 Animal Call
On May 31st, at 11:15 am, the Oak Bay Police responded to a report of a deer fawn under a parked vehicle on the roadway in the area of Oliver St and Central Ave. A resident reported they observed a doe walking around vehicles and into traffic trying to get to her baby. There was concern the mother deer may be struck by a passing car while she was trying to get the fawn off the roadway. Police attended and removed the very young fawn from under the parked vehicle and off the roadway. Police placed the baby deer under some nearby cedar bushes out of harms way where the mother deer and fawn could be reunited safely.

2023-1517 Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
On June 2, 2023, at 11:34pm, Oak Bay Police officers were conducting a roadblock in the area of Beach Dr and Windsor Rd. Officers were speaking with a driver of a stopped vehicle at the roadblock when their attention turned to a driver approximately four cars back from the stopped vehicle revving their engine. The vehicle then pulled into the oncoming traffic lane and accelerated toward the officers conducting the roadblock forcing them off the roadway to avoid being struck by the vehicle. Officers were able to get the licence plate from the vehicle and alert neighbouring police departments to the incident. The vehicle and the 40-year-old female driver were located in Victoria after being involved in a traffic incident in their jurisdiction. The 40-year-old woman was taken into police custody and charges are being recommended by VicPD. (VicPD 23-19575)
