On Wednesday, November 24th, a patrol member was on routine patrol in the 1400 block of Newport when he observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed southbound on Newport Avenue. A vehicle stop was conducted near Windsor Park and the member noted smoke billowing out under the front hood. The driver was issued a violation ticket for speeding (fine: $196.00) and no insurance (fine: $598.00). The vehicle was towed from the scene.

On Thursday, November 25th, the Oak Bay Police attended a school for a theft of an iPhone 11. The student left her gym bag in the locker room and when she returned the phone was missing. The student used the app “Find my phone” and the phone was tracked to a bus stop in front of an apartment building near Hillside Mall. The owner locked the phone preventing it from any use. There were no CCTV cameras within the hallways of the school. The phone was valued at $800.00.

On Thursday, November 25th, the Oak Bay Police were responding to a call in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue. Just prior to attending the scene police members observed a vehicle slowing down and drove over three traffic delineators (they have a flexible base and will pop up again when run over). The 73-year-old male driver and sole occupant was impaired and subsequently an ASD was administered, it showed a “FAIL” reading. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Driving Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30-days.

On Saturday, November 27th, a patrol member was on routine patrol and noticed a vehicle in the 2000 block of Cadboro Bay with an expired decal. Police records confirmed the vehicle was not insured. The driver was issued a violation ticket for no insurance (fine: $598.00) and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
