Weekly Media Release for Oct. 09 to Oct. 6, 2022

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 72 calls for service this week.

On October 11, 2022, at approximately 1:30pm, the Oak Bay Police Department received a report of a theft in the 1900 block of Bee St. The complainant reported someone had broken into a locker room at the Oak Bay Recreation Center and their debit card had been stolen. While the officer was taking the report, a second complainant reported that their car keys were stolen from the same locker room. It is believed the suspect later entered the victim’s vehicle and $100.00 was stolen from the vehicle. No suspects have been identified in this file. This file is still under investigation. (OB 2022-3214)

On October 15, 2022, at approximately 8:00pm, the Oak Bay Police Department received a report of someone dumping a derelict boat off  the boat ramp at Cattle Point. The boat was a 15’ vessel, without an engine and in poor condition.  The boat had four large tires tied to it which appeared to be placed to encourage the boat to sink. Police attended and were able to secure the boat as it had not yet sunk and was floating up against the boat ramp. A witness reported seeing a small dark vehicle towing the boat on a trailer at Cattle Point.  A short time later the witness heard a loud noise, likely the boat being dumped, and heard a vehicle screech away. The boat was then found in the water unattended.  Identification number on the vessel is 14K222265. No plate obtained and no description of the individuals as it was too dark. This matter is still under investigation. (OB 2022-3252)
