Weekly Media Release for Oct. 20- Oct. 26, 2025

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 79 calls for service during this reporting period.

Break and Enter/Uttering Threats: This is an update to a previous release from October 21st, 2026:

On October 20, 2025, at approximately 3:49 a.m., Oak Bay Police responded to a break and enter and reported robbery at a residence in the community. The suspect entered through an unlocked door, stole personal items, and made verbal threats to the resident before fleeing. Police initiated a canine track and forensic examination, and the stolen cell phone was later recovered nearby. The suspect subsequently committed additional break and enters in Victoria, where he was located and arrested. Charges have now been sworn against 54-year-old Jarrod Lane for break and enter and uttering threats in connection with the Oak Bay incident. Lane remains in custody pending court proceedings. Theft of Watercolor Paintings

On October 19, 2025, at approximately 10:45 a.m., a theft occurred in the parking lot of the Monterey Recreation Centre. An artist briefly left two large black portfolios containing 30 to 40 unframed watercolor paintings on top of their vehicle while unloading art supplies. Upon returning within five minutes, the portfolios were missing. The paintings are valued at approximately $500 each. The incident was reported on October 22, 2025. The investigation is ongoing, and OBPD are asking for anyone with information to contact police. (File 25-2983)

Collision

On October 24, 2025, at approximately 8:08 a.m., Oak Bay Police responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a red Nissan Leaf and a Chevrolet pickup truck at Beach Drive across from the Cattle Point East exit. Both vehicles sustained damage and required towing, resulting in a road closure for over one hour while the scene was cleared. Both drivers were assessed and did not require hospital treatment. Speed and alcohol were not factors. The driver of the Leaf was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield after stopping. (File 25-3006).
