The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 97 calls for service this week.
September 26, 2022: The Oak Bay Police Department’s School Liaison Officer and uniform patrol members attended Oak Bay High School for a presentation on bike and internet safety. This presentation was well received by the students. In addition, our member has received emails pertaining to vehicles speeding through school zones. Drivers are again reminded of 30km/hr speed limits from 8:00 am-5:00 pm Monday to Friday.
September 26, 2022: The Oak Bay Police received a report of a single vehicle, hit and run collision into a hydro pole in the 1700 block of Foul Bay Road. Witnesses to the incident reported the driver was aware of the damage caused however he left the scene. The collision resulted in the hydro pole needing replacement. Police were able to later identify the vehicle and driver. The driver was issued a violation ticket for fail to remain at the scene of accident. Due to the replacement cost of the Hydro pole and after-hours BC Hydro crew call-out, the total value of the collision was estimated at $55,000 (2022-3022).
September 28, 2022: Oak Bay Police received a report of Fraud. The complainant reported being defrauded of $3000 in a Canada Revenue Agency scam. The victim received a text message, the sender claiming to be the CRA. The sender provided a list of banks and requested access to the victim’s account. By clicking on the provided link, the sender was able to gain access to the victim’s accounts and withdraw funds. This matter is still under investigation. (2022-3049)

September 29, 2022: Members of the Oak Bay Police attended Monterey Seniors Centre for ‘Coffee with a Cop”. This lively group of seniors appreciated the police attendance and discussed the current trends and challenges in policing. (2022-3046)
September 29, 2022: An Oak Bay Police member was conducting speed enforcement on Foul Bay Rd. The officer observed a motorcycle travelling more than the posted speed limit at 77km/h in a posted 50km/h zone. The officer stopped the motorcycle and while speaking with the rider noted an odour of alcoholic beverage. The officer made a demand for the rider to provide a breath sample with a result of .058. The rider was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition, his motorcycle was towed and was issued a violation ticket for speeding ($196). (2022-3083)
September 30, 2022: Oak Bay Police responded to the 2100 Block of Cedar Hill Cross Road for a report of a theft from vehicle. The complainant had parked on the roadway between 4 pm and 8 pm, and upon returning found the rear window of the vehicle smashed. The complainant’s bright red, Manitou Mattoc mountain bike fork, valued at approximately $1,000, had been stolen. There were no witnesses, no video surveillance, and no evidence to assist in identifying a suspect. (2022-3093).
Residents are advised to ensure all valuables are removed from your vehicle or hidden from sight when parked to discourage such thefts from vehicles.
