On January 01, 2017 at approx. 9:40am Oak Bay Police members were conducting a roadblock to detect impaired drivers on Henderson Road by Avondale. A 25 yr old driver was stopped and an odour of liquor detected on his breath. Subsequent roadside breath tests produced WARN readings and the motorist’s driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 3 days.
On January 05, 2017 police investigated a theft of garbage cans from the Oak Bay Marina Restaurant. Over the past two weeks 15 garbage cans have been stolen. A secured area was accessed by the culprit(s) by climbing a wall to take the black ‘slim-jim’ garbage cans. To date the total value of stolen property is $1,350. Police are continuing their investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Oak Bay Police or Crimestoppers.
On January 05, 2017 at 10:15 pm an Oak Bay police officer observed a motorist speeding, crossing over the yellow line on numerous occasions and making abrupt steering corrections. A check of the driver revealed a strong odour of marihuana on his breath. The officer conducted a standard field sobriety test which the driver failed. The motorist received a 24 hour driving suspension and his vehicle was impounded.
On January 07, 2017 at 2:15 am a motorist was stopped for speeding on Cadboro Bay Road and a strong odour of liquor was discovered on the driver’s breath. Roadside breath tests produced WARN readings and the driver was issued an immediate 3 day driving suspension and had his motor vehicle impounded for three days.
