On January 23rd at 11:00 am police attended to a residence on Woodburn Ave where an audible alarm had been ringing.  A rear sliding door to the residence was found tampered, with some damage being noted to the door latch area.  Fortunately no entry was gained.  Police encourage homeowners to have an alarm system in place.  Police also encourage the use of deadbolts and sensor lights as a deterrent to thieves.   The Oak Bay Police Department has in place a residential property check program where residents can notify police of the dates they will be away for an extended time period and police will conduct periodic checks of the property.

On January 23rd at 4:00 pm police received a report of a lost pick-up truck by a local citizen.  The elderly citizen thought they had parked near Mitchell St but upon reflection was not sure where they had parked and could not locate their vehicle.  Oak Bay Police searched the area and eventually found the truck parked on Chamberlain St.   The truck was returned in good condition to the owner.

On January 23rd at 11:40 pm Oak Bay Police set up a Counter-Attack checkpoint looking for impaired drivers on Beach Drive near Mount Joy.  The very first vehicle arriving at the check point resulted in the officers detecting a very strong odour of marihuana coming from the vehicle.  The 26 yr old Saanich driver admitted he had smoked a significant amount of marihuana.  A standard field sobriety test was administered and the driver failed the test resulting in a 24 hour suspension of his driver’s licence and the towing of his motor vehicle.
