Weekly Media Release July 11-17, 2016

Monday, July 11th, (#16 – 2451): Police responded to a call of an intoxicated male who was climbing over residents fences in the south end of Oak Bay. The male was located, arrested for being intoxicated in public place and transported to cells to sober up.

Wednesday, July 13th, (#16 – 2477): Information was obtained that an uninsured vehicle was parked in the 2200 block of Cedar Hill Cross Road. Police records confirmed the unoccupied vehicle had expired insurance which is a violation pursuant to the Motor Vehicle Act. The vehicle was towed from the roadway and the owner of vehicle was responsible for the impoundment.

Thursday, July 14th, (#16 – 2491): Police were conducting routine foot patrols at Willows Beach and a pungent smell of freshly burnt marijuana was emanating in the air at the south end of the beach. Police observed two females sun tanning lying on their backs while passing a marijuana joint between them several times. The sunbathers were oblivious to the police presence directly behind them while they were smoking their joint. Police announced their presence and arrested both persons for possession of cannabis contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. Police also seized additional four marijuana joints.

Thursday, July 14th, (#16-2490): Police received a report from a resident in the 1400 block of Pacific Avenue that their mail was intentionally removed from their residential mailbox. The culprit opened the mail and discarded the contents onto the front yard. Nothing of importance was stolen.

Friday, July 15th, (#16 – 2501): Police were conducting radar enforcement in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Avenue and stopped a vehicle for speeding. The male driver was unable to produce a valid driver’s license. Police records confirmed the driver was a prohibited driver and his driver’s license was cancelled. The driver was issued a Provincial Appearance Notice to attend court, an additional roadside driving prohibition requested by the Superintendent of Road Safety B.C , a violation ticket for “No Driver’s license- prescribed fine $276.00 and a vehicle impoundment for
seven days.

Friday, July 15th, (#16- 2508) Received a report of attempted B&E in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Avenue and unauthorized opening of mail. A pry mark was visible on the wooden door next to the deadbolt. No entry was gained, however the culprit also opened mail from two of the apartment tenants mailboxes in the entrance to the building which were insecure.
