Lock it or Lose it
As part of our regular patrols our officers were conducting a “lock it or lose it” project while walking through the streets in the area of Eastdowne Rd and Haultain St for 1.5 hours in the early morning hours and located 27 unlocked cars – one vehicle still had its radio playing! So far this year we have investigated 40 thefts from vehicles and only a few of these involved actually breaking into the cars, most are simply left unlocked. We know that many more cases go unreported. These thieves will enter many dozen cars in a night looking for parking change and electronics and anything of value. One officer this week found a man’s wallet in plain view in a car. This was brought to the attention of the vehicles owner, but a thief would not hesitate to smash the window to get that wallet. Please lock your cars!!
