Weekly Media Release March 30 – April 5, 2020

On March 30th the Oak Bay Police assisted OBFD with an Arson. Fire was set to the locked facility compound at Camosun College Lansdowne Campus resulting in significant property damage. Saanich had 2 similar incidences around the same date/time. A male suspect was identified and later arrested. Any information in relation to this file can be directed to the SPD – File 2020-6885.

On March 30th the Oak Bay Police received a fraud complaint. The complainant bought a Google Comcast device and later called the support line for help. Support person logged on to the complainant’s computer and purchased an Amazon gift card and attempted to make some e-transfers. It appears the website used to access the support number may have been fraudulent. OB File 2020-970.

On March 30th, the Oak Bay Police received a theft complaint in the 2700 block of Burdick Ave. The complainant stated the area rug they just took delivery of was stolen off of their patio between 4:30 pm and 10:00 pm.. Value $300.00. OB File 2020-974.

On March 31st, the Oak Bay Police responded to a report of a tipped over canoe with three people in the water holding on to the canoe. A boater attended the swimmers’ location and rescued all three. The trio and their canoe were brought to the Oak Bay Marina and transported to RJH where they were treated for mild hypothermia. OB File 2020-985.

On April 3rd, Oak Bay Police took a mischief to vehicle report. The complainant stated that on March 13th his vehicle was parked in the 2000 block of Kings Rd. when it had been kicked. A foot impression was noted but popped out when the door was slammed shut. OB File 2020-1014.

On April 3rd, Oak Bay Police responded to a 3 vehicle collision in the 300 block of Beach Dr. A vehicle speeding eastbound on Beach Drive hit another vehicle that had been making a U-turn. This collision resulted in a parked car being hit. No injuries were sustained. OB File 2020-1018.

On April 3rd, Oak Bay Police received a report of a theft in the 2200 block of Oak Bay Avenue. The female suspect was caught on CCTV and identification is pending. $150.00 in product stolen. OB File 2020-1025.

On April 4th, Oak Bay Police attended the Victoria Golf Course to assist ambulance (PAS). PAS advised members that they were attending the location for a male who had rode his bike into a sand trap and injured his back. Oak Bay Police want to remind people that the golf courses are closed, and gatherings of any size are not advisable. Male will recover. OB File 2020-1032.

On April 5th, Oak Bay Police took a report of a stolen bicycle from the 2700 block of Satellite Street. Lock was broken and the bicycle was taken from the carport and is described as a yellow and black GIO electric bike. Valued at $1500. OB File 2020-1043.

Oak Bay had 5 theft from auto incidents. All vehicles appeared to have been unlocked except one where a convertible soft top cover had been cut open. Items stolen included sunglasses, phone charger and approximately $3000 in tools. The thefts occurred in the following locations:

• 2600 Foul Bay Rd: OB File: 2020-1038
• 2100 Haultain St: OB File: 2020-1036

Oak Bay Police have been receiving several phone calls in regard to social distancing in apartment buildings. Please be respectful of your neighbours and limit your time in common areas such as the stairwells, lobbies, elevators, laundry rooms and parking garages.
