On May 20th, the Oak Bay Police executed an outstanding warrant for an accused who failed to attend court. The accused was transported to the Sheriffs for a morning court appearance.
On May 20th, at approximately 5 am an Oak Bay officer observed a suspicious male in the Monterey Centre parking lot riding a bicycle wearing a 90-litre backpack. Upon questioning the unknown male, he immediately ran away from the officer. The Police K9 was deployed and an extensive search was conducted in the nearby alleys with negative results. It appears that the suspect may have departed the area on another bicycle. The backpack had another bag inside which had property stolen from vehicles from the south Oak Bay area.
The owners of the backpack and the other stolen items were identified, and their property was returned. The owner of the backpack informed police that he stored his 90-litre backpack in the bicycle storage area in his apartment building. The same suspect was seen on the surveillance video and it was determined that a break and enter occurred in the storage area earlier in the evening. The investigation is ongoing to identify the suspect.
On May 23rd, the Oak Bay Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Gordon Head Road. Police records showed that the registered owner was required to be served a Prohibition Notice for two months. The officer approached the driver who was not the registered owner and he was not able to produce a valid driver’s license. The driver was also prohibited under Section 95 of the Motor Vehicle Act. The officer issued a Provincial Appearance Notice to attend court at a later date and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The vehicle was towed to a secure impound lot.
