The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 95 calls for service.
On May 3 an Oak Bay Police member was conducting patrols in the 900 Block of Oliver St. when they were approached by a citizen to report that they had had a package stolen from their porch. Unfortunately, there was no suspect information to investigate (file 2020-1381 refers).
Some tips to prevent these types of thefts are:
- Keep track of your package online.
- Get an estimate of when that item will show up, and arrange to either be at home or have a friend or neighbour pick it up.
- Give instructions to the delivery service to place packages in a more discreet area.
On May 3, Oak Bay Police responded to a report of a Break and Enter in the 2100 block of Esplande. The homeowner reported that a mountain bike had been stolen out of their garage. Police are still investigating (file 2020-1385 refers).
On May 3, Police received a report of a male with a flashlight looking into an excavator that was parked in the 2400 block of Windsor Ave. Police attended but were unable to locate the male. No damage or theft was reported (file 2020-1387 refers).
Oak Bay had five theft from vehicle incidents, in which both vehicles appeared to have been unlocked. Items stolen included cash, sunglasses, spare change, shoes, and a wallet. The thefts occurred in the following locations:
- 1000 block of Foul Bay Road: OB File: 2020-1390
- 2100 block of Epworth Street: OB File: 2020-1406
- 2000 block of Milton Road: OB File:2020-1414
- 2000 Block of Crescent Road: OB File: 2020-1422
- 1100 Block of Beach Drive: OB File: 2020-1470
On Saturday May 9, Police received a report of theft from the 3400 block of Ripon Rd. The complainant reported their Rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) stolen. The RHIB was equipped with an outboard motor and other equipment. The estimated value of loss is $3,200. Police are still investigating (file 2020-1457 refers).
The Oak Bay Police received several calls in regard to vehicles improperly parked on the streets near Willows beach. These streets include Beach Drive, Dalhousie Rd and Estevan Ave. Police and the Commissionaires are aware of this issue and ask motorist to be considerate parking along these streets. Respect the No Parking signs, don’t park along the yellow curb, and don’t block resident’s driveways.
