Weekly Media Release Sept 15-21, 2014

On Sept 17, 2014 at approx. 12:05am Police checked a motor vehicle at Cattle Point whose occupants were smoking marihuana. Police seized 12 grams of marihuana. A field sobriety test was conducted on the driver resulting in the issuance of a 24 hour driving prohibition and the vehicle being removed from the roadway.

On Sept 17, 2014 police received three separate complaints of houses being egged. The residences were located on Thompson Ave, St. Patrick Street, and Monterey Ave. No permanent damage was noted.

On Sept 21, 2014 police investigated a commercial break, enter, and theft that occurred near Cadboro Bay Rd and Foul Bay Rd. Shortly after 6:00am, suspects forced entry into the business and stole a large quantity of iPads with an approximate value of $20,000.00. Saanich Forensic Identification Section attended to assist with the investigation at the scene. The investigation into this incident is continuing.

Late in the evening on Sept 21, 2014, the contents of three separate residential blue boxes were set on fire. The blue boxes were situated on the front street in the 3000 Block area of Beach Drive in front of separate residences. There was no risk of any building structures catching fire. Investigation regarding these incidents is ongoing.

With the start of the university and college school year, police report a spike in the number of loud party complaints received during the weekend of Sept 19 – 21. All house parties that police attended were being hosted by post- secondary students. Generally, police will provide a verbal warning to the homeowner or renter, as the case may be, and subsequent reports may result in fines issued pursuant to the Noise Bylaw. More importantly, respecting the rights of their neighbours to have a peaceful night should be at the fore-front of the minds of these young adults.
