Weekly Media Summary: March 3 – 9, 2014

On March 3rd, a two vehicle motor vehicle accident occurred at Windsor Road and Newport Avenue. One of the vehicles approached the intersection from the west on Windsor Road and stopped (stop signs control all traffic on both sides of Windsor at Newport). When the vehicle entered the intersection east bound, the driver failed to see the other vehicle north bound on Newport. Both vehicles were towed due to the significant damage. There was no life threatening injury. The driver of the vehicle that entered the intersection from a stop sign received a violation ticket for failing to yield after a stop.

On March 4th, BC Transit requested assistance with an intoxicated male in his 40’s who was sleeping on one of their buses. Members located the bus at Central Avenue and St. Patrick Street. When the male had difficulty waking up, Emergency Health Services were requested to attend. The male was eventually transported to the hospital.

Also on March 4th, members of the Oak Bay Police attended the Dairy Queen at Foul Bay Road and Cadboro Bay Road for a female who was intoxicated and had passed out.  When the female, who was in her 40’s, was located Emergency Health Services were notified to attend. The female was eventually transported to the hospital for examination as she may have suffered a seizure.

On March 4th, a vehicle parked in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue was damaged when someone removed the vehicle’s antenna and scratched the paint down to the metal across the entire length of the trunk. Additional damage was located on the vehicle’s rear bumper.

On March 5th Oak Bay Parking Enforcement requested assistance in the 2200 block of Cadboro Bay Rd when someone became hostile over the ticketing of his illegally parked vehicle.  The abusive language hurled at the enforcement officer subsided when the Oak Bay Police arrived.

On March 6th an Oak Bay resident reported their Amazon account had been compromised and the suspect attempted to purchase a computer worth over $4000 for shipment to New York.  Fortunately Amazon intervened and cancelled the transaction. The complainant has since changed all her passwords, had her computer inspected and all malware removed.
