On January 23rd at 10:15 am, Oak Bay Police responded to a theft of a lime green Norco bicycle from the covered bike stand in front of the Oak Bay Recreation Centre. The culprit was observed to ride up on another bike, grind the lock off of the stolen bike, and leave the scene with both bikes. This investigation is still ongoing.
On January 23rd at 8:30 pm, the Oak Bay Police investigated a vehicle on Beach Drive at Windsor Road in Oak Bay that was being operated with dim headlights. Police successfully stopped the vehicle which was being operated by a 71 year old Oak Bay citizen. Police noted the driver had a strong odour of alcohol on her breath and that she displayed glassy eyes and slurred speech. A demand for a roadside breath sample was made to which the driver refused to provide a sample. The driver was issued a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and her motor vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
On January 26th at 1:35 pm hours, Oak Bay Police were requested to attend at the University of Victoria located at Ring Road where a construction crew had broken a gas line causing a major gas leak. The leak was capped two hours later and no injuries were incurred.
On January 27th at 8:25 pm, Oak Bay Police conducted a roadblock on Beach Drive near Goodwin Street, Oak Bay. A vehicle with three occupants approached the roadblock. The 81 year old male driver had a strong odour of liquor on his breath. A demand for a roadside breath sample was made to which the driver registered a “Warn” result. He was issued a three day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and the vehicle was not impounded, as a sober driver was available.
